Sometimes, changing someone's future starts by simply helping them get where they need to go.
In June, the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC) donated a vehicle to Our House, a Little Rock nonprofit that helps families experiencing homelessness or housing instability build stable, independent lives. Our House, in turn, selected one resident family to receive the vehicle, where the donation could have the greatest impact.
At Our House, families are already taking important steps toward independence. Residents commit to maintaining a drug- and alcohol-free lifestyle while working toward stable, full-time employment. Through its Career Center, Our House connects residents with job opportunities, helps them prepare résumés and interviews, and provides the support they need to build successful careers.
Reliable transportation is often one of the biggest barriers to long-term stability. Without a dependable vehicle, getting to work, attending medical appointments, taking children to school, or completing everyday errands can become more challenging. By donating the vehicle to Our House, AFMC helped support a family already working toward self-sufficiency.
Partnerships like this demonstrate how nonprofits can work together to address barriers that affect health, employment, education, and long-term stability. By combining AFMC's resources with Our House's expertise and community relationships, one Arkansas family now has greater access to opportunities that were previously out of reach.
“This donation reflects AFMC’s commitment to supporting stronger, healthier communities across Arkansas,” Selig said. “We are grateful for the work Our House does every day and are honored to play a small part in helping someone move forward on their path to stability and long-term success.”
