What does Medicaid cover?

Arkansas Medicaid helps pay for many kinds of health care for people who qualify. Here are some of the things it may cover:

Basic Health Care

  • Doctor visits
  • Hospital care (when you stay overnight or only visit for a short time)
  • Emergency care (If you need help right away)
  • Lab tests and x-rays

Regular Check-ups and Preventive Care

  • Shots to keep you from getting sick
  • Health screenings and check-ups
  • Family planning services (help with birth control and pregnancy planning)

Prescription Drugs

  • Many types of medicines your doctor says you need (some limits may apply)

Health Care for Children (ARKids First)

  • Doctor and dentist visits
  • Vision and hearing checks
  • Shots and check-ups
  • Mental health care

Care for Women

  • Care during pregnancy (prenatal care)
  • Help with labor and delivery
  • Check-ups after the baby is born (postpartum care)

Help for People with Disabilities or Who Need Long-Term Care

Mental Health & Substance Use Help

  • Therapy and counseling
  • Treatment for drug or alcohol problems

Special Care & Therapy

  • Physical therapy (help moving your body)
  • Occupational therapy (help with everyday tasks)
  • Speech therapy (help with talking or swallowing)
  • Visits to medical specialists (like heart or skin doctors)
