How do renewals work?

Back to the Welcome Packet

Arkansas Medicaid beneficiaries must renew their coverage every year to check if you still qualify. Here’s how the renewal process works:

1. Watch for a Renewal Notice Letter

You’ll get a letter in the mail about 1–2 months before your renewal date.

  • If your information is current and Medicaid has everything it needs, your coverage may be automatically renewed. You’ll get a letter saying your coverage is extended.
  • If additional information is needed, you must respond before the deadline to avoid losing coverage. You can do so:

Online: Access Arkansas Portal
Phone: Call 1-855-372-1084
Mail: Return your completed forms to the address on your renewal letter
In-Person: Visit your local DHS office (Find DHS Offices Here)

2. Update Your Information

  • If your income, household size, or address has changed, update your information right away.
  • You can update your info online at Access.Arkansas.gov, by phone at 1855-372-1084, or in person at a local DHS county office.

3. Wait for a Decision

  • We may need more information from you, so please watch your mail closely and respond quickly to any request for information.
  • You’ll get a notice by mail telling you if you still qualify and have coverage.
  • If you do not agree with the decision, you have the right to request an appeal hearing. You can do so by:
➡ Checking the box on your notice and mailing or emailing it back to DHS
➡ Writing a letter or email including your name, case #, the program, and action (include a copy of the front of your notice).
    • Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
    • Send a letter to the Office of Appeals & Hearings, P.O. Box 1437, slot 101, Little Rock, AR 72203-1437

➡ Talking to someone at your local county office.

4. Don’t Lose Coverage

  • Renew on time so you don’t have a gap in your health care. If your Medicaid lapses, you may have to reapply from the start.
  • If you don’t qualify for Medicaid anymore, find other low-cost health insurance options through Healthcare.gov.
