AFMC Wins Dept. of Justice Opioid Grant

The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded AFMC a three-year grant to provide services to young victims of the opioid crisis. Focusing on Howard and Hempstead counties in southwest Arkansas, AFMC will recruit and lead a consortium of organizations called the Substance Abuse Resource Assistance Coalition (SARAC). The local organizations’ common goal is coordinating services and activities that increase well-being, safety and successful outcomes for children who are at risk of being removed from their home as a result of a parent’s substance abuse. These children often face complex behavioral issues, substance abuse and family violence. Families must navigate both the child welfare and substance-abuse treatment systems. Grant partners include Office of the State Drug Director, Arkansas departments of health and education, and the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Association.
