AFMC Resources
Corporate Overview
The Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC) was incorporated in 1972 as a private nonprofit educational organization. It has a membership of more than 1,500 physicians and a governing board consisting of physicians, hospital representatives, business professionals and consumers.
AFMC’s staff includes more than 150 professionals in clinical medicine, data management, epidemiology and statistics, quality improvement and communications. Our company’s corporate headquarters is in Little Rock, Arkansas, with a second office in Fort Smith, Arkansas. We operate with annual revenues of nearly $16 million.
Medicare
Under a contract with the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, AFMC is the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for Arkansas. We are responsible for monitoring, evaluating and improving the health care provided to Arkansans who are on Medicare. We also provide information and educational outreach for Medicare beneficiaries.
Medicaid
AFMC contracts with the state Department of Human Services, Division of Medical Services, to review and help improve the care furnished to Medicaid beneficiaries. These services include reviews for inpatient hospital stays, emergency room utilization, certain surgical procedures and organ transplants. Many other activities for Medicaid are conducted through our Medicaid Managed Care Services (MMCS) division, including management services in support of the ConnectCare and ARKids First programs.
