Have fun and get fitAcross Arkansas, spring is in the air. It’s a good time to go outside and enjoy nature…and to get a little exercise while you’re at it. Many of the things we do for fun are good exercise, like walking, golfing, gardening, or bicycling. If you’d rather stay inside, you can try a stationary bicycle, a treadmill or a beginner’s low-impact aerobic workout class or video. No matter what your age or how in shape you are, exercise can help you stay healthy. Studies show that staying active can help prevent or delay certain diseases and health problems, like heart disease or diabetes. Adding just a little exercise can make a big difference. And if you don’t exercise, you might lose some of your strength, balance, flexibility and endurance. You should always check with your doctor before you start exercising, especially if you’re at risk for heart disease or diabetes, or if you smoke or are overweight. If you have any problems like severe shortness of breath, chest pain, nausea, dizziness, or any symptom that you haven’t had before, call your doctor right away. Stay safe when you exercise. Take a friend with you, or let someone know where you are going. If you have been sick with a cold or the flu, wait until you feel better to exercise.
